Every Day Begins New

Both my toddler and preschooler are interested in exploring with colour. My toddler is learning to recognise and name the basic colours and my preschooler is more interested in colour mixing and the use of colour in art work (watercolour pencils, water colour paint pallette and crayons, liquid watercolours and permanent markers etc). There are so many ways one can explore with colour.

Colour sorting.

This may be a shape sorter but still a great way of introducing the colour name of each shape.

Colorino game. There are several pictures to choose from or you can use the blank side of each picture and choose your own colours to decorate.

A toddler touch and feel ‘quiet book’ we were given as a gift.

Shape and colour recognition.

Books that introduce colour. This is a popular book that we often read at home.

Colour wallet cards. I will often leave these cards attached to our art cart or bring them out during painting time.

Colour paddles. My toddler uses them individually and my eldest puts the paddles together to make other colours.

A colour mixing activity. We have done many variations of this activity in the past but today we added milk to the centre colour mixing paint pallette to see what effect it had when adding the colours.

Colour grading.

These are from the paint shop. If colour grading is too tricky, then a simple match up activity might be a better option to begin with.
