Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing the lovely Holly from This Toddler Life where she shares her love of Montessori and a hint of Minimalsm. Holly is originally from the US but now lives in Australia with her husband Nick and their two year old daughter.
Q1. Dear Holly, would you like to share with us a bit about yourself and your family?
Holly is an Education consultant for modern-day moms, using step by step guides to bring Montessori into more homes. Holly blogs at This Toddler Life where she shares her love for Montessori. When Holly isn’t helping other moms she’s spending time with her family. Their love of nature and travel takes them on many adventures around the world.
Q2. How did you first start on a Montessori path and what does this journey mean to you and your family?
I was lucky enough to be introduced to Montessori by a friend early on in my daughter’s life. My friend told me it was all about letting your little one learn at their own pace, make their own decisions and when you get the choice choose natural products and activities. Noting that ‘You’re probably already Montessori and don’t even know it”. She was right.
Montessori truly comes naturally to us. We practice the principles because we agree with them and want our daughter to know them too.
Q3. How is your parenting influenced by Montessori (or other methods/philosophies) and what have you found to be the most challenging part? Do you have any tips for others?
Montessori philosophies have enabled me as a parent to prepare our home to help support my daughter developmentally as she grows older.
My daughter is 2 now and I can perfectly see the sensitive periods she is going through. I’m able to give her the tools she needs to grow within that developmental stage because I follow the Montessori principles such as observing my child. Without Montessori, I would not be able to aid my daughter in her newest discoveries as well as I do now.
Q4. What inspires you? Do you have any goals or Intentions for this year or the next that you would like to share with us?
I am highly inspired by nature. We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful coastal town so we often take our work outside to explore the world around us. Our main goal for this year and every year moving forward, like most parents, is to ensure our daughter is happy, healthy and growing a lifelong love of learning.
Q5. Are there any books or resources you would like to recommend, Montessori or other?
I’ve created a few amazing resources for Montessori parents to use with their toddlers. You can check them all out at thistoddlerlife.teachable.com
Thank you Holly!
