In a few weeks if all goes well, my plan is to talk to several groups of children (aged 3-6 years) at my children’s school about how we can care for the Earth. This talk will coincide with the upcoming Plastic Free July 2018 challenge.
At this point I am brainstorming. So I am open to any ideas or suggestions for this age group if you have any. Feel free to comment below or send me an email. The idea would be to introduce concepts without causing overwhelm. I would also just like to keep it simple and allow for lots of questions or comments if the children have them.
Activities– I think I will bring in a bag of items that the children can work together to sort into various categories. We can then discuss how we at home can reduce, reuse and recycle. I am going to bring a Rubbish and Recycling book with me (see image below) and some photos for visual aids.
The topics I would like to cover;
- What is rubbish and where does it come from and where does it go when we put it into the bin for collection.
- Plastic, single use items and keeping our oceans clean.
- Low waste lunches. I will bring in some items to show the children how I pack a low waste lunchbox including using a cloth napkin and our own cutlery.
I will keep you posted on how it all goes.
